Eighty Years Iranian Short Story
Foreword While tale telling in Iran traces back to the old times, the age of short story as an artistic genre is rather a new one and backed to the 1920s, when Mohammad Ali Jamalzadeh published his first collection of short stories under the title of Once Upon a Time (Yeki Bood,Yeki Nabood). He is regarded as an initiator, because he employed simultaneously the techniques of European fiction with the Eastern tradition of tale telling and created the realistic stories. Fortunately short stories with the help of Hedayat's works found its right place in Iran culture and gradually appeared as one the strong branches of Iran Contemporary Literature. Bozorg Alavi, is the another author who like Hedayat improved the short stories by displaying and addressing the internal contradictions of his characters. Short story flourished with the publication of the works of Sadeq Choobak. Ebrahim Golestan and Jalal Al-e Ahmad in 1940s and the works of Simin Daneshvar, Bahram Sadeqi, Q'oalam Hossein Saedi in 1950s. The great writers such as Hooshang Golshiri; Mahmood Dolatabadi. Ahmad Mahmood and others gave a fresh impetus to this genre and granted it widespread popularity and made the 1960s as one of the most glorious era in Contemporary Persian Literature.
