For centuries 'Gol-o-Morgh' (Flower and Bird) has been a popular theme in Iranian painting:
1 What makes 'Gol-o-Morgh' painting so significant?
2 Why was the same theme and subject employed by many Iranian artists for over 200 years in a variety of forms: single leaf painting, painted lacquer, glass, tiles, wood and stone, in addition to the traditional illustrated manuscripts and covers of holy and poetry books?
3 Why were compositions of Gol (flower) and Morgh (bird) painted in mosques, palaces and even on tombstones?
4 Why were irises painted in a special style during this same period?
5 Is there any connection between "Flower and Bird" painting and other genres such as "Iris," "Woman and Bird," and "Man and Bird" paintings?
In search of answers to these questions, this book takes a journey to the depth of Iranian mythology, analyzes Ancient Persian Philosophy and Islamic Mysticism, and explores Iranian poetry and literature.
